The “New” Travian 3.1

The comx server has upgraded from 3.0 and will now be a Travian 3.1 server. What’s the difference you ask?

The only difference, that I have been able to find, is the introduction of a series of “quests” given to each player at the start of the game. The quests yield rewards as they are completed, ranging from resources, to units, to temporary PLUS account (but the unit you receive is nothing more than a rat from nature).

Are the quests good or bad? The answer depends on what level of player you are. If you’re a beginning player, it definitely helps you get a feel for the interface and gets you on your way to upgrading resource fields and building your army. However, an experienced player, like myself, found the quests to be trivial and hurtful, not helpful. What sets experienced players apart from inexperienced players is how well they know how to start. The quests take this factor out of the game, because they set-up the basics of your first city. However, with the large resource bonus given for each completed quest, it would be illogical for an experienced player not to follow them. While it does make the boring part of the game go by faster, and help get you right into the action, it really takes some of the strategy out of the game. For instance, an experienced player chooses which resource fields to upgrade first, and which to leave behind. The quests make you upgrade all resource fields evenly, and takes away from the advantage of an experienced player.

The new Travian 3.1 also implemented a referral system, with a 20 gold reward. Each player is assigned a link, and if a new player signs up for Travian using a link from another player, and gets a city to 250 population (for the speed server), the player from whom the link was clicked gets 20 gold added to the account.
